HOW YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Content Developer to join Jagex’s growing team. RuneScape is an MMORPG with millions of players, and our flagship product. You will work with our world class team to design, write and code fantastic game content, to build the future of our virtual world.
As part of your role, you will:
Design new game content
RuneScape has a huge variety of content. You will be designing quests, mini-games, skills or game-play improvements. You should be confident writing stories and narrative, designing interesting gameplay mechanics and be proficient with technical design.
Produce high quality code
We use an internally developed scripting language, RuneScript. Your script needs to be safe, efficient and maintainable.
Drive a project forward
You’re active in finding solutions and positive when facing challenges. You are able to work to deadline in an Agile software development methodology, and also be happy to lend a helping hand wherever it’s needed.
WHAT WE NEED
Good programming or game scripting skills
You will have experience writing quality code in at least one programming or scripting language and be familiar with practices such as code reviews, maintenance and adhering to coding standards. Full training will be given in RuneScript and our in-house tools, but it is important that you can hit the ground running.
Good creative writing skills and imaginative storyline ideas
You should be able to create memorable characters, colourful dialogue and engaging scenarios that immerse the player as they explore.
Clear understanding of games design
You’ll need to be able to break games down into their basic mechanics and determine what makes them fun to play. Using this knowledge, you should be able to design new game content that’s both engaging to play and viable to produce.
Very strong communication
You’ll be working in a multi-skilled team alongside artists, QA and other professionals. You’ll need to be able to communicate effectively with people from a wide range of expertise and responsibilities.
Proven task and time management ability
You can work with tight deadlines in a project based environment, organising tasks and estimating time costs. Experience in Agile development and with project management solutions such as JIRA are beneficial.
A passion for games and the gaming community
You love to play, design and create great games, particularly MMORPGs. You are willing to take on board and act effectively on feedback from the community, giving our players the gameplay experience they love.
