    Reporting to the Senior Legal Counsel, you will sit in the Legal and Business affairs team and will be working on key commercial and technology projects both in the UK and globally including intellectual property, licensing, commercial relationships, contracts, litigation, data protection and marketing.


    You will also assist in developing and managing effective processes for managing legal risk within the business. The role reports into the Senior Legal Counsel and requires frequent interaction with senior stakeholders within the business.


    As part of your role, you will:



    • Review and draft commercial contracts and support the business in negotiating these contracts to a conclusion.
    • Advise the business on commercial, corporate, data protection and regulatory issues generally.
    • Assist on corporate transactions including liaising with external solicitors on M&A transactions and corporate compliance advising the Senior Legal Counsel on all relevant matters.
    • Liaise with external bodies and internal stakeholders on new developments in Gaming and Gambling which will impact the business.
    • Provide ad-hoc assistance to the Company Secretary on company secretarial duties.
    • Assist the HR and Talent function with employment and litigation matters.
    • Manage diverse portfolio of trademarks, including coordinating external trade mark attorneys to secure suitable advice, and delegating to junior staff where appropriate.
    • Support and supervise junior members of the legal team.


    • Prepare standard and ad-hoc information and data reports to regulators and other stakeholders as required.
    • Prepare and manage on regular basis appropriate timely management information on Legal Risk and regulatory issues to Senior Legal Counsel including suggested mitigating actions.
    • Assist with preparing advice/ad-hoc reports for the board on topical subjects.

    External Relations

    • Support the Senior Legal Counsel in the development and maintenance of effective and efficient interaction with external regulators e.g Gaming Commission, Jagex’s views are appropriately represented and facilitating the supervisory activity of regulators.
    • Negotiate annual insurance policy renewal.



    You will be a commercially minded, qualified Solicitor, with strong experience post qualification. Your core experience will lie in contract law, corporate and in M & A (preferably with exposure to IT/Gaming industry).

    Strong stakeholder management and excellent communication skills will ensure you work efficiently with managers/Directors/stakeholders in the business to deliver required outcomes.


    Experience in managing, reviewing and controlling various size contracts (£10k - £10m).


    Knowledge and experience of the application of legal principles to the commercial environment.


    Experience in supervising & mentoring junior members of the team.


    Data privacy law knowledge is welcomed, but not essential.



    • The ability to handle complex negotiations and advise management of contractual risks, prioritising workloads with a clear understanding of what is important to the business.
    • Self-starter.
    • Strong analytical skills will enable you to recommend solutions to legal issues balancing the need to minimise legal risk with the need to take commercial risks.
    • Legal Counsel will need to influence and persuade other managers and staff throughout the business to adopt and comply with legal policies and requirements. This will require the demonstration of the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
    • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
    • Business acumen.
    • Ability to balance legal issues and business operation.
    • Ability to support and motivate colleagues.
