    As a Software Engineer working within the Data Engineering team, you’ll extend our Big Data technologies – building streaming and batch processing pipelines, implementing advanced analytics, deploying highly-scalable distributed systems for dashboarding, reporting, and machine learning applications.

     

    On a daily basis, you’ll be able to choose the right tool or language to solve a specific issue, striving to find the best answer using available resources. You’ll be working most closely with other Data Engineers and Data Scientists, as part of a high-performance Agile cross-functional team in all aspects of software design, implementation and testing.     As a Software Engineer within the Data Engineering team, you will:

    • Design, implement, and modify scalable software development infrastructures. The purpose of such infrastructures will be:
      • Data pipelines continuous testing, deployment and orchestration
      • Real time and off-line machine learning algorithms testing and deployment
      • Data products servicing
    • Help create software and tooling necessary for build and deployment pipeline automation ranging from internal datacentres to AWS infrastructure
    • Develop product software, design and implement work flows to improve developer productivity and software quality
    • Communicate technical designs in writing and in person to multiple technical audiences
    • Mentoring and definition of best practices

     

    WHAT WE NEED

    • Cloud expertise:
      • Experience with AWS services, with particular reference to Lambda, EC2s, Kinesis, EMR, S3 Datalakes, VPCs, Security Groups, Aurora & Rds, DynamoDb, ELB
      • Deep understanding of AWS monitoring and profiling (CloudTrail, CloudWatch, Cloudwatch logs) and its use for debugging, performance tuning, auditing
      • Experience with infrastructure-as-code, specifically Terraform and CloudFormation
    • Virtualisation/Containerisation:
      • Experience with the use of Docker Containers, Docker Files, Container security and building of lean images
      • Experience with Kubernetes and other container orchestration systems (e.g. AWS Fargate)
    • General expertise:
      • Deep understanding of Design Patterns
      • Deep understanding of OO
      • Expert with one of the following languages: Python, Java, Scala
      • Experience with microservices and distributed architectures, their design and implementation
      • Experience with Continuous Integration & Continuous Delivery pipelines, e.g. Travis / Jenkins / Bamboo
      • Understanding of NoSql paradigms, with particular reference to key-value stores, time-series databases and graph databases

     

    EVEN BETTER IF

    • Understanding of acyclic graphs, and intuitive understanding of their use in orchestration systems
    • Exposure to the ElasticStack
    • Experience with Scala and functional programming
    • Experience with Configuration Management and its display, using graph tools
